Signature Sequence Pairs

Sometimes notes with different signatures are issued with the same prefix with consecutive

serial numbers. Pairs are seen most often, but trios and short runs of several pairs can be found.

The signatures can be out of date sequence.  ie  Page  Fforde

How does this happen. In the Fforde / Page instance, not enough Page signature blocks / slugs were

available in time and printing commenced with a combination of both blocks / slugs.
